Berg Enterprise Twin over Twin Bunk Bed with StairsWhether moving into a new house or renovating your current one, planning for furniture becomes an obvious next task once the interior work is done. Often, you’ll want to plan your children’s bedroom around some sort of theme. You’ll also want to ensure that you choose quality furniture that will last.

First, you need to consider how many children you’re putting up and how much space you have to work with. If you’re working with tight space and need to fit two or three kids in a room, you’ll likely want a bunk bed like our Maxtrix bunks, which will fit in a smaller space, with the option of a straight ladder that minimizes the area taken up. If, on the other hand, you just have one child in a larger room by herself, you may consider a post bed that will give her the full “princess” experience.

Next, you’ll want to think about how much in the way of clothing and accessories you’ll want to store in the room. If you have a lot of closet space to hang up shirts and pants, as well as tuck away boxes of toys, you may consider a smaller upright chest of drawers for storing the clothes and items that won’t fit in the closet. If, on the other hand, you don’t have much closet space, you should probably look at a larger dresser for storing your children’s items.

Also, do you plan for your children to have a large floor surface for playing? You’ll want to think about where you’ll fit a bed, dresser, nightstand, and other items to maximize the space. Consider the dimensions of each piece of furniture to determine where it will fit in the room. Note that we can help you with measurements for your space and determining what pieces of furniture will fit where.

You can certainly drive to the nearest big box store and pick up a cheap dresser that you’ll soon find has a flimsy back and drawers that don’t quite shut. But if you want to ensure your children’s room has furniture that will last, even through the treatment of multiple energetic kids, you should consider furniture built with quality materials and thoughtful design.

In addition, you’ll want to consider how the materials and colors for the various pieces of furniture will complement each other or clash in the room. If you like a bed that we make, you can likely get a dresser with the same stain or paint to ensure continuity in your child’s room.
