How to Design a Cozy Children's Bedroom

We understand that had to keep things simple during the preschool and toddler years. But after that's over, you can finally design the child's bedroom you've always wanted for them - one that's cozy and inviting and has all the amenities which we associate with home sweet home. The Danish use the term "hygge" to describe the coziness which we frequently associate with the winter. Whatever you choose to call it, we'll show you how to give your child's bedroom a little more of it.

Use Warmer Colors

Warmer tones like brown, red, orange, and yellow can be added even if you're starting with a neutral or "cooler" base. Wood furniture is a great method to bring warmth, and while a honey finish would be cozier than most, all wood finishes will do so to some extent. It's okay if you've already decided on white furnishings! Simply incorporate warmer, deeper hues there. Consider curtains, throw rugs, blankets, and wall colors.

Permit a Range of Natural Textures

There is such a thing as layering, but there is such a thing as having too many textures piled on top of one another. Here, we're considering the entire space. Include goods with a variety of textures, such as fur, knitted items, baskets, leather, and other natural materials, rather than a matching set or only cotton cloth. Even a few scattered woodsy accents, like deer antlers or a basket of natural discoveries, will lend a warm touch.

Turn on the Light.

Some of the energy-efficient lighting used today can appear harsh rather than warm. Warm eco-friendly lighting is also available. Even cozier are modern LED lighting with a retro aesthetic. And if you're having trouble incorporating warm hues into the space's existing color scheme, a light fixture made of brass or bronze might be the answer. In addition to floor lamps and desk or bedside lighting, ceiling fittings are also significant. For dimension and that cozy, well-lit feel, many designers advise using at least three lamps in any space.

Stock Those Bookcases

The uncluttered appearance with just a few carefully selected accents on the bookshelf? It's not exactly welcoming. Put some books on a shelf or two, preferably older ones with fabric or leather binding, to create the impression that the space is intended for visitors to sit and stay for a while. And who knows, maybe your son or daughter may be actually enticed enough to read one themselves!

You might want to incorporate a woodsy or spicy aroma into your child's room at the same time that you're adding these comforting accents. According to studies, memory and our sense of smell are strongly intertwined, and if there's one thing all parents want to offer their children, it's warm, comforting memories of their own homes.
