Perhaps 3D displays aren't quite your method of operation, but you still want to savor your vacation with a little more than photographs allow. Or maybe you want to come up with a single method that will allow you to record your travels, year after year. These 3 ideas can help you create simple, kid-friendly treasures you'll want to keep around.

Travel Keepsake Kits

These travel keepsake kits are perfect for those who want their kids to be able to easily sift through photos and other momentos and/or those who lack much wall space or display surfaces. Similar to Montessori Continent Boxes, they allow your child to revisit the sensory experiences from your travels. You can make them 4D by adding audio or video connectivity. And why not ask family members to provide contents of boxes about their own travels? Adding an audio file telling your child about their experiences in their own voices would be a priceless addition to those boxes, too. Bonus point: How cute would these be for your child to tote along to school for show and tell?!

Travel Journaling for Parents

Perhaps a picture is worth a thousand words, but words are still sometimes the best way to express the story behind the images. There's really no right or wrong way to do travel journaling; it can be as simple as "Fave Five" experiences from each day or as artistic and involved as this wanderlust aficionado describes. You can either incorporate individual journal pages or cards into a trip-specific photo book or album or keep a separate travel journal, adding to it over the years.

Travel Journaling for Kids

To equip you or your child to record his or her own take on the events, print out a handful of these free trip journal pages before you leave home. You can put each one in a page protector and add them to a binder, or take photos of them and incorporate them into your vacation photo book. If your children are too young to write out their own reflections, you can use this Nature Walk Page as an interview guide, recording his or her spoken observations. For an extra bonus, pack along some colored pencils or these erasable gel pens along with a pack of travel stickers!

You can take your journals to a new level by reading them aloud, incorporating them into an audio or visual element. And keep in mind that making them into scrapbooks doesn't have to mean spending a lot of time and money on adding craft elements. Simply tape in a ticket stub or brochure here and there for added interest. If you want to add a little color, use Washi tape!
